When S’mores Frappuccino first launched in 2015, it quickly became a customer favorite and inspired s’mores as a trend. But what was the first spark?

The team that created the beverage started by thinking about summers outside and spending time with friends and family. That led to nostalgic memories of roasting s’mores around a campfire, a simple treat made with toasted marshmallow sandwiched between pieces of chocolate and two graham crackers.

Lisa Beckman leads the team that first created S’mores Frappuccino more than a decade ago.

“This beverage is not just about recreating the flavor of a favorite treat, it’s about recreating a feeling — the joy of summer connection with friends,” said Beckman, now director of the beverage development team. “Then we brought that idea to life through a delicious Frappuccino, layering flavors and textures to create a multi-sensory and emotional experience.”

Now the original recipe for the nostalgic fan-favorite S’mores Frappuccino is returning to the Starbucks menu alongside the new S’mores Cold Brew with Marshmallow Cold Foam. There will also be a new Iced S’mores Chai, which customers can find on Starbucks new Chai menu. Starbucks Rewards members will get early access to the drinks on June 30, followed by full availability on July 1. Beverages will be available for a limited time.

Yi Wang-Delizo, a member of the Starbucks beverage development team, reached back to her own summer memories making s’mores in her backyard with her family when she was tasked with bringing back the magic of s’mores after a six-year hiatus.

She said s’mores beverages take you back to that moment with the rich toasted marshmallow aroma up front, followed by notes of graham cracker and rich chocolate.

“With the whipped cream and milk chocolate sauce layered throughout the drink, that first sip gives you the chocolate and marshmallow together — just like the first bite of a s’more,” Wang-Delizo said.

When creating the new S’mores Cold Foam, she wanted to craft a recipe that brought in all of the flavors and textures, from the subtle crunch of graham to the smooth creaminess of chocolate sauce. These are uniquely balanced drinks that bring together flavor, texture and aroma in a way that feels both nostalgic and satisfying.

“For the S’mores Cold Brew, the cold foam provides the marshmallow flavor and that creamy, vanilla, fluffy texture, then we use a silky, smooth chocolate sauce, and top it with the crunchy graham cracker,” Wang-Delizo said. “These ingredients have a wide flavor spectrum, so you can pair it with a lot of other ingredients that we offer in our coffeehouses from chai to espresso to cold brew.”
