5 things to know about the new Starbucks Tersane Istanbul coffeehouse
Step inside Starbucks Tersane Istanbul, where coffee culture, history, art and contemporary design come together on the Golden Horn.
For centuries, Istanbul has been a crossroads between Europe and Asia, old and new. Its dramatic waterfront, historic neighborhoods, modern towers and ancient ruins tell the stories of civilizations that have shaped the city.
On the shores of the Golden Horn, Starbucks Tersane Istanbul brings a new chapter to that story. Set within a historic port and shipyard area, the coffeehouse connects past and present through its architecture, coffee experiences, art and spaces designed for people to gather.
Tersane Istanbul, operated by Alshaya, is one of the Starbucks Europe, Middle East and Africa region’s premiere coffeehouse experiences, joining Rome’s San Silvestro Piazza and Santiago Bernabéu in Spain. Starbucks has more than 800 coffeehouses across Türkiye, including the historic Narmanli Han coffeehouse on Istiklal Avenue.
Here are five things to know about Starbucks Tersane Istanbul.
1. A coffeehouse that tells the history of Istanbul’s Golden Horn
The coffeehouse is located on the site of a former Imperial shipyard, with original wooden roof trusses and soaring ceilings that preserve a connection to the site’s centuries-old maritime heritage. On the terrace garden, native plane and hackberry trees (historically associated with village squares and palace gardens) add another connection to the past.
2. Exploring the craft of coffee
The spirit of exploration extends throughout the space, with a core espresso bar, Starbucks Reserve® experience, Turkish coffee showcase and a Mixato Bar, creating opportunities to discover local drinks and enjoy Starbucks coffee craft. The menu offers distinctive beverages alongside Starbucks favorites including the Passionfruit Espresso Tonic, Mont Blanc Cream Cold Brew, Cold Brew Lemon Sour and Emerald City.
3. Turkish coffee has a place of its own
At Tersane Istanbul, Turkish coffee has a space all its own. Here, customers can watch baristas prepare coffee the traditional way — finely ground and brewed without a filter in a pot called a cezve — creating a natural connection between Starbucks coffee craft and Turkey’s long coffee heritage.
4. Art and design inspired by Istanbul’s waterfront
Art is part of the experience at Tersane Istanbul, from ceramics and sculptures created specifically for the location to architectural details that connect the space with its surroundings.
The art draws inspiration from the Golden Horn and its centuries of maritime and trade history and connects the Golden Horn’s history as a port with coffee’s journey across the sea. “The Call of the Sirens,” curated by Bengü Gün, brings together works by Gökçe İrten, Furkan Depeli and DECOL, exploring the concepts of water, memory and transformation through ceramics, sculpture and digital art.
That sense of discovery continues throughout the coffeehouse, with all corners designed to create moments of connection. Visitors can enjoy live music from a piano while taking in views through the arched windows or find calm in the sun-dappled terrace garden under the shade of a green umbrella.
5. Take home a piece of Tersane İstanbul with you
The experience extends to the Shipyard Shop, a collection created specifically for Tersane Istanbul. The shop features mugs, tumblers, textiles and other pieces inspired by the location’s distinctive visual world, offering visitors a way to remember their experience until next time.
