Starbucks announces rollout of new strawless lids throughout U.S. and Canada
Strawless lids are the new standard in Starbucks stores for most cold beverages.
Today, Starbucks announced the rollout of strawless lids across company-operated and licensed stores in the U.S. and Canada, following a successful trial in select markets over the past year.
This rollout marks a significant milestone in Starbucks effort to eliminate one billion plastic straws globally per year, and contributes to Starbucks commitment to shift away from single-use packaging and plastics as part of its resource positive commitment announced in January.
The recyclable, lightweight strawless lid is made from polypropylene and has approximately nine percent less plastic than the flat lid and straw historically used for iced beverages. The new lid will now be the standard for all iced coffee, tea, espresso, and Starbucks Refreshers® beverages.
Straws will remain available for customers upon request.
