Have a Great Idea to Help the Community? Starbucks Youth Action May Fund It
Working in partnership with leading charity UK Youth, Starbucks Youth Action funds projects that help those under the age of 25 who are not employed and not in school. More than 100 grants will be awarded to young people who have a community idea they want to bring to life.
All across the UK, young people are helping their communities in significant and interesting ways – from improving fitness and confidence through a non-contact boxing class, to creating a foundation that provides chances for children and young people with long term illness and disability to lead a better life. For the fifth consecutive year, Starbucks is funding ideas and projects like these that have a positive impact.

“Through Starbucks Youth Action, we know that young people are looking for an opportunity to work and succeed more than anything else,” said Simon Redfern, communications director for Starbucks. “Our message to these young people is, ‘if you have a bright idea, we will back it, so get in touch.’”
Since launching across the UK in 2011, the Starbucks Youth Action program has supported 260 projects with over £450,000 worth of funding. The 2015-16 program aims to reach more than 18,000 young people across Britain.
“UK Youth is incredibly proud to help deliver Starbucks Youth Action,” said Anna Smee, chief executive of UK Youth. “When big organizations trust and support young people to make a difference to their community, this not only prepares them to embrace the real world, but it also helps them build self-confidence, enhance awareness of their capabilities and feel a real sense of personal achievement.”
The Starbucks Youth Action program will accept applications each month from now until March 2016 and will offer seed money to jumpstart each winning campaign. Awarded applicants will gain access to a specially-designed App to guide them through the planning and delivery of their social action project. In addition, they will receive a copy of UK Youth’s employability toolkit to help them accredit their project through UK Youth’s Leadership Unit and learn about job opportunities available at Starbucks.
