Travelers Unwind at Some of the Most Interesting Starbucks Airport Locations
Visit some of Starbucks most remarkable airport locations.
Labor Day weekend 2015 is expected to be one of the busiest ever for air travel, with industry experts predicting more than 14 million passengers will fly between September 2-8. Travelers hoping to squeeze in one more trip of the summer can grab a beverage or food at one of nearly 300 Starbucks® stores at 78 airports across the U.S. and Canada.
Jon Wagner, senior designer for Starbucks Licensed Stores, and his team have created locally-inspired stores in airport locations across the United States.
“We try to make each of our Starbucks airport locations reflect their local culture the same way we would for our neighborhood stores,” he said. “Starbucks airport locations serve diverse needs of air travelers – from frequent flyers, to families and vacationers,” he said. “It’s our goal to create store designs that help all travelers relax and connect.”
For those traveling over the holiday weekend, these stunning Starbucks locations are worth a visit.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
Fort Lauderdale is known as one of the boating capitals of the world and the “Venice of America” for its hundreds of miles of inland waterways. The Starbucks® store at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood’s Terminal 1 celebrates local boating culture with the sleek look of a motorboat. The kiosk is enveloped in reclaimed teak decking with contrasting natural finish teak and steel accents, while a large photographic mural depicts a coastal scene in the background.
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
Philadelphia International Airport’s first Starbucks® store was designed to reflect the welcoming feeling of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods. Its comfortable seating area is enclosed with laser-cut hickory panels, conjuring up the feeling of a classic front porch. Located in the Philadelphia Marketplace Food & Shops between Terminals B and C, a glass wall gives customers a view of the B/C Connector, visually linking them to the comings and goings of the busy airport.
Washington Dulles (IAD)
The Starbucks® store at Washington Dulles International Airport Terminal B has become a destination unto itself with a one-of-a-kind feature wall decorated with vintage suitcases. The airport store, located outside of Washington, D.C. in northern Virginia, is also home to the first Starbucks Evenings airport location with an enhanced menu in the afternoons with small plate food items and a carefully curated selection of wine and beer.
Los Angeles (LAX)
At Los Angeles International Airport’s Tom Bradley Terminal, passengers can stop at two distinctive Starbucks locations that cater to busy travelers. The store at T51 celebrates the craft of coffee making, with overhead steel canopies with open cells inspired by the bubbles in the froth of a caffè latte. Over at the Starbucks store at T61, customers can enjoy a casual California vibe. The design takes cues from Los Angeles street art with its mural wall is a collage of Starbucks stores from the Los Angeles area overlaid with a graffiti-inspired painting.
Portland (PDX)
At Portland International Airport, the design of the Starbucks in Concourse C recollects the early days of the jet age with a replica of an aluminum airplane wing that extends high above the bar. The two-story location takes advantage of its height with the look and feel of a flight hangar, its walls clad in wooden boxes that look as though they could contain airplane parts and supplies.
