Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Serves as a Starbucks Guest Barista

Instead of calling out plays, Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll called out beverage orders for an hour Tuesday at a Starbucks store in Renton, Washington.
“I have a Frappuccino for Wendy. Thank you for being here to support all we’re trying to do in the community,” Carroll said as he worked behind the bar, smiling and posing while Seahawks fans took selfies.
The Coach and several Seahawks players donned Starbucks iconic green aprons to serve as guest baristas at 10 store locations. The appearances were part of the efforts by Starbucks and the Seahawks to raise funds for A Better Seattle – Coach Carroll’s community initiative to reduce youth and gang violence. Through outreach workers in several Western Washington communities, A Better Seattle provides education, resources and opportunities.
Seahawks players Malcolm Smith, Luke Willson, Greg Scruggs, D’Anthony Smith, Mike Morgan, Bryan Walters, Steven Hauschka, DeShawn Shead and Russell Okung fanned out to stores in Seattle, Kirkland and Bellevue.
“This is amazing that our guys are such a part of the community that they come out to do things like this,” said Seahawks fan Jacob Wells. “The 12’s love the Seahawks for all they do off the field and on.”
Another part of the Seahawks-Starbucks partnership gives customers an opportunity to support those who benefit from A Better Seattle through a new Starbucks-Seahawks card, now available in Washington state Starbucks® Stores.
From now through September 21, Starbucks will donate 25-cents to A Better Seattle each time customers pay with the new (or last year’s) Seahawks-Starbucks card. In turn, A Better Seattle – in partnership with the YMCA’s Alive & Free program – will provide support systems, life skill coaching and resources to give Seattle-area youth positive alternatives so they can become engaged, contributing members of their communities.
“Starbucks is a pillar in the community and we’re proud and pleased to have them join us in the work we’re doing to help a lot of young kids in the Seattle area,” said Coach Carroll.
“These kinds of investments are part of Starbucks commitment to help the next generation of leaders,” added Carol Wise, Starbucks vp regional operations for the Pacific Northwest.
