Our role in promoting safe and equitable communities
We commit to be upstanders, not bystanders, as we continue to listen, learn and act to better serve our communities.
We commit to be upstanders, not bystanders, as we continue to listen, learn and act to better serve our communities.
Our goal is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone, our partners, our customers and our communities. Our relationships with those who keep our stores safe, including law enforcement, are guided by that principle. We also understand that as a company with stores in neighborhoods across our country, we have a responsibility and opportunity to do more to promote safe and equitable communities. That is why we commit to the following:
- We will focus on partner and customer safety and community-based policies and initiatives that model innovative approaches
These include de-escalation training; tools like “My Starbucks Community Resources,” with a 211 service that store partners can use to help customers find nearby community resources like housing assistance or the nearest food bank; and our revised Third Place Policy, enabling our partners to create a welcoming environment for all. - We will collaborate with those who are focused on supporting safe and equitable communities
This includes our outreach worker pilot program with United Way, community building events with law enforcement and first responders, our recent round of The Starbucks Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants to promote racial equity and collaboration with organizations that are focused on innovative policy reforms and solutions to help us build bridges and make meaningful social change. - We will work to develop best practices for retailers
We will show up in a positive and constructive way with partners, civil rights and community leaders, social service providers, law enforcement, first responders and businesses to address a range of issues impacting our society.
