Julie Ellis is senior vice president and chief information security officer for Starbucks. In this role, she is responsible for leading the company’s cybersecurity strategy, developing services to protect Starbucks from external and internal threats, and aligning risk decisions with the needs of the business. Julie was promoted to this position in September 2024 and works closely with Starbucks executive leadership team.
Julie joined Starbucks in June 2023 as vice president of Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) and International. In that role she unified Starbucks GRC functions, working with Security Architecture to enhance the company’s assessment and engagement efforts and streamlining security and technology services around the globe.
Prior to Starbucks, Julie was Vice President Information Security Architecture & Engineering for the Walt Disney Company. Julie spent 15 years at Disney building strong relationships, effectively matching technology to use cases and delivering solutions across the company. Julie and her team evaluated solutions, services, technology and architectures to make recommendations that help technology and business leaders improve their ability to manage risk across the enterprise. While at Disney, she also served in leadership roles for enterprise business intelligence, consumer data analytics and personalization. Julie has also held technology leadership roles at Point B and Accenture.
Juile holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a diploma in baking and pastry from the Art Institute. Julie lives in Seattle with her family and enjoys spinning, paddle boarding, family game night and travel. Her favorite Starbucks drink is a grande Americano.
