Greg Smith is senior vice president, Finance, leading the Finance and Accounting teams for Starbucks North America. In this role he provides comprehensive financial management and operational decision support to the company’s largest operating segment, working closely with leaders across the business to ensure successful business and financial outcomes.
Prior to this role, Greg was chief financial officer for Starbucks Coffee International and Channel Development, responsible for the segments’ strategic direction, risk management and expansion investment. These businesses are the fastest growing in the company and account for more than 20,000 stores in over 80 markets around the world including China, Japan, the U.K., and the Middle East, and key partnerships with global brands including Nestlé and PepsiCo. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Tata Starbucks Joint Venture partnership in India.
Before leading Finance for Starbucks International & Channel Development, Greg served in numerous finance leadership roles including Investor Relations, Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis (CFP&A), Loyalty & Technology and Store Development. While leading CFP&A Greg helped financially navigate the company through significant COVID-related volatility. As part of Investor Relations, he guided Starbucks to recognition for Best Investor Relations in the Restaurant Sector and Best IR in Leisure, Media & Restaurants by Institutional Investor Magazine, and IR Magazine, respectively.
Throughout his tenure at Starbucks, Greg has demonstrated a commitment to advancing the careers of others and enhancing Starbucks strong culture. He currently is an executive leader for the Finance Inclusion & Diversity Team and previously led Starbucks finance communications, as well as the Starbucks finance early-in-career rotational and internship programs. Prior to joining Starbucks in 2005, Greg held roles at Capital One and Morgan Stanley.
Greg holds a B.A of finance from Oregon State University. He currently lives east of Seattle with his wife and three kids, and spends his time outside of work hiking, skiing, camping and enjoying the great Pacific Northwest. His favorite Starbucks beverage is a one-pump Caffè Mocha.
